In CSP (Current Social Problems) today, our teacher showed us this live documentary of 3three 19/20 year old’s that went to Uganda and they had footage of the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army or known to the Ugandans as “the rebels”) abducting and killing innocent and small children. The LRA apparently abducts 5 to 13 year old children mainly because they are big enough to hold a gun, but small enough to sneak into schools/homes and abduct other children.
One of the adults who works to help the children said that when they are raised in the army from such a young age, all they know is violence. And a child said that when he doesn’t see blood at least once a day, he gets massive head aches.
What the most tragic thing about this, to me at least, is that our society in America is so much more concerned with the latest celebrity gossip and sex scandal on tv, than small, innocent children EVERYWHERE, not just in Uganda, being killed, and it goes unnoticed.
This might be lame, but the quote from the movie 2012 is so accurate.
“The moment we stop fighting for each other, that’s the moment we lose our humanity.”
